We Are the Product of Divine Sovereignty!

In his book, God's Undertaker: Has Science Buried God?, John Lennox quotes a number of scientists who admit their ignorance about the origin of life:

  • One of the most eminent scientists working on the origin of life, Leslie Orgel, summed up the position as follows: "There are several tenable theories about the origin of organic material on the primitive earth, but in no case is the supporting evidence compelling."
  • Orgel echoes the view Klaus Dose, also a prominent scientist working on origin-of-life issues, who stated, "At present all discussions on principal theories and experiments in the field either end in stalemate or in a confession of ignorance."
  • Francis Crick, not known to be sympathetic to the miraculous, nevertheless wrote, "The origin of life seems almost to be a miracle, so many are the conditions which would have had to have been satisfied to get it going."
  • Stuart Kauffman from the Santa Fe Institute claims, "Anyone who tells you that he or she knows how life started on the earth some 3.45 billion years ago is a fool or a knave. Nobody knows."
  • Finally, Francis Collins, former director of the Human Genome Project, said, "How did self-replicating organisms arise in the first place? It is fair to say that at the present time we simply do not know."   -John Lennox, God's Undertaker (Lion, 2009), pp. 133-134
Even modern science, which tries so hard to destroy the very thought of God, confirms for us that we cannot be the product of mere chance. Note these facts about your body:
  • The average body contains some 7.5 trillion cells.  It is far more complex than the most advanced computer.
  •  Largest molecule is called DNA.  Carries hereditary information from the parents to the offspring.  Also carries genetic code.  It determines if you will be a man or a mammoth.
  • DNA in one cell is 6 feet long.  Total DNA in body would fill a box the size of an ice cube, but if it were joined together, it would reach to the sun and back 400 times.
  • All our cells contain the information found in all the other cells.  Each cell in your body carries all the necessary information for another you.
  • If the coded DNA information and instructions of one human were translated into English, it would fill a 1000 volume encyclopedia.
  • In cell division the cell forms a rotating double helix.  It rotates at 75 turns per second.  This is equal to straightening out a cathedral full of tangled microphone wire in under a split second.  Yet, the cell’s duplication is so accurate that it is equivalent to a rate of less than one letter for an entire set of Encyclopedia Britannica (hardcover version).
God is in charge of when life is created within the womb.  Notice a few instances of this in the Bible: (Genesis 29:31); Rebekah - (Genesis 25:21); Rachel – (Genesis 30:12, 22); Manoah and his wife – (Judges 13:2-3); Hannah – (1 Samuel 1-2). When we think of childbirth, we think of it being just the product of a physical union between a man and a woman. It is far more than that! There is a sovereign God behind the scenes that determines whether or not that egg is fertilized. He determines whether or not life begins, (Psalm 128:3-5).

I realize that there are often physical issues involved as well. Still, behind it all is the sovereign will of God. He opens the womb and He closes the womb according to His will. He and He alone determines the dawn of human life. But wait! There's more...not only does God determine whether or not there will be life; He also determines what that life will become. He has a plan for every human that comes into this world!

In (Jeremiah 1:5), we read that God has his hand on Jeremiah and even had a plan for the prophet’s life before he was ever born.  The same was true in the life of John the Baptist.  The Bible tells us all about what he would be before he was ever born, (Luke 1:13-17).  We even read that God was active in John’s life while he was still in his mother’s womb, (Luke 1:44)

What you and I are in this life is not the product of random chance and hapless genetics. What we are in this life is the product of divine sovereignty. We are what we are because God determined it to be the way that it is. This was the conviction of David, (Psalm 139:13-16). Job also held this view, (Job 10:9-12)I hope you agree with me that human life is precious!  It is so precious that God sent His Son Jesus into this world to save life through His death on the cross, (John 3:16-17).

Scripture: Genesis 2:7; Hebrews 11:3; Colossians 1:16; John 1:1-3; Revelation 4:11; Romans 1:20; Job 37:5

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for this day. Sometimes I feel as if prayer does no good and I am talking to no one. Sometimes I feel all alone. Please let me feel your presence and know you are there.

May God bless you,

T.J.

It's Great to be Back!

It's great to be back!

I'd like to thank all of you for your patience and kindness during our annual summer hiatus. I have to admit, it was nice being able to take some time off and finish some tasks that I had put on the back burner during the year. And, although we all were in need of a break, many of us were still able to attend and/or present spiritual events around the country. The Lord has truly blessed us in many ways, so we are always happy to give back to others in whichever way He leads us.

All of the ladies are refreshed and ready to get back to taking the Word out to the world! I hope that you continued to follow our ministry blog, using the archived postings, during the time we were away. Oh...I almost forgot! Keep an eye out for some new faces who will be joining us here on our ministry blog. Of course, most of our regular contributors will be back, too! As I mentioned above, "It's great to be back!"

Enjoy!
