Bible Study Snacks, Acts 11:19-30

Hi, everyone!

Happy Friday, and welcome back to another presentation of Bible Study Snacks. As always, I'd like to thank you so much for joining me as we walk through the richness of God's spoken word and wisdom together. I pray that today finds you in good health and strong in faith!

This week, I would like to continue our study of the Book of Acts, with Chapter Eleven (Verses 19-30).

I have designed these studies to be brief, yet packed full of good information for everyone regardless of your level of biblical knowledge. I might add that these quick studies make perfect small group discussion starters, as well!

As always, I whole-heartedly believe in the importance that any Bible study should begin with prayer. If you have your Bible ready, let's pray together...

Heavenly father, please guide us as we study your Word today; I pray that our hearts and our minds will be open so that we will not only receive your Gospel, but learn from it as well; you are the Light of the world, Lord, and your Spirit will illuminate our path as we journey through your teachings. In the name of Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior. Amen

If you are taking notes for yourself, or using this for a bible study with others, here are the objectives for this week's lesson...

OBJECTIVES: This week, the reader will...

1) Note the beginning of the Lord's church in Antioch, and the early ministry of Barnabas and Saul.

For your convenience, here is a summary of Acts 11:19-30...

Luke records how the gospel spread from Jerusalem to Antioch. Those scattered after the persecution of Stephen (Acts 8:1,4) include men from Cyprus and Cyrene who begin preaching Jesus to the Hellenists (Grecian Jews). When a great number believe and turn to the Lord, the news is soon heard by those in the church at Jerusalem. Barnabas is sent to Antioch, and rejoices in what he sees. He first spends sometime encouraging them by himself, but later goes to Tarsus to find Saul. For a full year they work together with the church in Antioch and teach many people. The disciples are first called Christians in Antioch, and in hearing from the prophet Agabus that there is going to be a famine, they display their Christ-like character by sending relief according to their ability to brethren in Judea. This they do, sending it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul (19-30).

REVIEW QUESTIONS:

1) What did those who were scattered after Stephen's death do? (Acts 11:19)
2) What did some from Cyprus and Cyrene do when they came to Antioch? (Acts 11:20)
3) What was the response? (Acts 11:21)
4) What did those in Jerusalem do when they heard the news? (Acts 11:22)
5) When Barnabas saw what happened, what was his reaction? (Acts 11:23)
6) What kind of man was Barnabas? What kind of results accompanied his ministry? (Acts 11:24)
7) Who did Barnabas go to find in Tarsus?  What did the two men do? (Acts 11:25-26)
8) What were disciples called for the first time in Antioch? (Acts 11:26)
9) Who came to Antioch from Jerusalem?  What did one of them show by the Spirit? (Acts 11:27-28)
10) What did the disciples decide to do?  How did they do it? (Acts 11:29-30)

After completing this week's study, go back and read through the material again. Take your time and read each topic and scripture reference as many times as you feel necessary. Keep in mind that by doing this, you just might see something new that you overlooked the first time around!

As we journey through the Bible together, I will continue to pray that God’s message will come through to you loud and crystal clear. Until next time, I wish everyone a blessed week!

God bless you!

Sheri
