He Will Not Leave Us, Nor Forsake Us!

A pastor called on a lady from his church and found her very despondent and feeling that God had forsaken her. Looking at the baby in the woman’s arms, the pastor said to her, "Drop that baby on the floor." Startled by the suggestion, she looked at him in disbelief. "Well," he said, "for what price would you drop it?"

Indignantly she replied, "Not for as many dollars as there are stars!"

He then said kindly, "Tell me, do you really think that you love your child more than the Lord does His?" That truth broke through the woman’s despair.

Perhaps you feel, like that woman, that God has forgotten you or no longer cares. You need look no further than the cross of Calvary to see that God loves and cares and sent His Son to die for your sins.   (From a sermon by Tim Spear, You’re in Good Hands, 9/1/2011)

Let's face it, knowing, and having a relationship with Christ, is just better! Jesus Christ is superior to, and preeminent over, everyone and everything. There is a comfort in knowing Jesus. A comfort zone that is indescribable and satisfying, fulfilling and complete.

True contentment comes from communion with God. The more we focus on Him the less we will be concerned about anything material, which is temporary anyway. The Lord will not leave us or forsake us. He will be with us as He was with our fathers.

He will stay with us and cause our hearts to turn towards Him and be connected with him. His presence with us develops an intimacy and a closeness with Him. As a result our hearts are drawn towards Him and we develop a lifestyle that is pleasing to Him.

As mentioned above, the Lord will not leave us nor forsake us. This gives us the courage and confidence to face any forces that may rise against us. He will be with us in times of danger and opposition and cause us to triumph over our enemies. And, because the Lord is with us, we need not fear about what man may do to us.

He will confirm and fulfill the promise He has given to us. Just as He was with the people of Israel until they entered the promised land, He would be with us until we inherit the promises He has given to us. His promises do not fail and will be confirmed by Him. He will not leave us nor forsake us until we enjoy the fulfillment of His promises.

God will be with us until we complete the task He has entrusted to us. Just as He was with Solomon, until he had built the temple of the Lord. He will be with us until the completion of the work we are doing for the Lord. We must trust in His faithfulness and not become discouraged or weary in our labors for the Lord.

He has made a covenant with us. We are His people and we carry His name. Therefore for His Name’s sake He will not forsake us. We are not alone in this world. We are the people of God who have a covenant relationship with Him. There is a protection in this covenant. The Lord will not forsake us because of His covenant with us.

Knowing that Christ "will never leave you nor forsake you" should affect our conversations. Throughout life, we all experience ups and downs, ins and outs, sunshine and rain, but the point is that through it all, we must believe that God sees us, God knows us, and God is concerned about us.

In closing, when we keep His commandments and walk in His ways He gives us the assurance of His presence and His protection. He will not forsake us because we keep His commandments and do what is pleasing in His sight.

It is a great security to live a life according to His commandments. We are sure that He will not leave us nor forsake us. He will be us at all times and help us in every circumstance we may face in our lives.

Scripture: Hebrews 10:25; Matthew 12:36; Acts 4:12; 1 Peter 2:2; Hebrews 10:24-25; Romans 10:17

Prayer: Lord, I have to admit that sometimes I feel like you have turned your back on me. I look for you and I can’t find you. I listen for you, but I can’t hear you. I put my trust in you, but sometimes I feel like you let me down. Help me to deal with my feelings of being forsaken. Help me with my thoughts of being left behind and left out.

Remind me that you have promised to never leave or forsake me. Teach me to believe in you more completely, to trust you more fully and to love you unashamedly. Through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior we pray. Amen

May God be with you always!

Jennifer
