Put God First In Your Life

"Am I as filled to overflowing with love for Jesus Christ as I was in the beginning, when I went out of my way to prove my devotion to Him? Does He ever find me pondering the time when I cared only for Him? Is that where I am now, or have I chosen man’s wisdom over true love for Him?"  -Oswald Chambers

God does not take his relationship with us lightly. The words that we say, the actions that we take, even the motives that go into our words and actions; these are all things that God takes notice of. Our relationship with him is lacking when we don’t understand that he wants our best affection, our best praises, our best gifts, and the best part of ourselves to be given to him in love. It is simply the foundation to a good relationship with God, anything less would be lacking.

Many of us aren't quite sure how to do this. We stumble along day to day, not really certain if we are doing what we should do, or need to be doing, in order to give God our best. Every single God- fearing person needs to put God first. How can you do this? There are many different ways we can show God that we are serious about our relationship with Him. Perhaps we can discuss a few examples today. Let's begin with your time.

Personally, I have found that if I will give God the first part of my day, his presence will remain with me in a real way throughout the rest of the day. If I can get up early enough to read my bible and quietly pray, then I communicate with my time how valuable God is to me. I definitely believe that this strengthens my relationship with God.

You see, many times we think of our relationship with God as something that will take care of itself, or as something that God will take care of for us. And, while we go back and forth trying to decide which one it is, He is the one who is taking the initiative to spend time with you. He is the one who is already at the door to your life, asking for some time just to visit with you. All that you have to do is open the door!

Unfortunately, many times we find other things to fill up our time. And then when we have spare time we are just so tired that we do something lazy instead of spending time with God. I have found that whenever I make time for God in my life I am better for it. I get some of God’s love in my life, I get God’s thoughts in my mind, and I get God’s wisdom in my decisions. He is the kind of friend that makes you much better. And he really wants your time.

Another way of demonstrating our affection for God is by putting Him first is in your decision making process. Sometimes, in life we get stuck on a problem and feel anxious, confused, maybe even helpless. Here's what I have found by personal experience. When you spend time reading your Bible, God will show you the next step that you need to take in life. Seriously, why not give it a try and see for yourself?

Putting God first in life means that when it comes to our time, God gets the best of what we have to offer. Dear friends, I hope that this message will encourage you to be encouraged and empowered to live full and abundant lives with the blessing of God over everything that you set out to do!

Scripture: Matthew 6:33; Galatians 2:20; Proverbs 16:3; Colossians 3:1-4; Romans 8:5; 2 Timothy 2:15; 2 Corinthians 8:5

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for this day. Please give me the strength to move in the direction I need to go. Help me realize that if I just stay were I am I will get no where. Amen

Have a blessed day!
